Thing #4

Blogs are a great informal way of getting information out to the public. My only problem with them is that I hate to write and am a slow typer. So it sometimes takes forever to post something. With that being said, I do enjoy reading blogs.

So I was reading the blog about not assigning homework, And I agree with the writer. I hate giving homework. 1 because I hate doing homework myself, and 2, because students don't do it. They forget to do it, copy off their friends,or forget to bring it. In fact, that is probably teh reason Irving ISD is not grading homework anymore. They only grade tests, quizzes and projects. I heard about this today on the news. It was shocking, but I can see why.

Another blog I read was Spies Like Us. It was talking about the dangers of video on cell phones in school. Unfortunately youtube is huge and the kids like putting videos on there. It is so easy to record on a cell phone. So be careful what you do or say. you never know what is watching.

Thing #2

It would be/ is awesome to have a technology based school. My school happens to have alot of technology, but it would be nice if every student had laptops. However, we do not allow cell phones for texting, and most of my students do not have internet access at home.

However, with that being said, I do believe that we/I need to utilize technology in the classroom. Students love to use it, so why dont we let them. In my classroom, we(teachers) have Elmos,Promethian Slates and Active Voters, websites, wiki's, and much more. Soon I will have a classroom that students will be constantly engaged with technology. The one thing I want to learn is how to podcast and videocast.

71/2 steps for life long learners was an interesting read. Learning is always fun, and sometimes frustrating. I always tell my students if you are not learning than you are dead. I have a hard time learning sometimes, because I am a huge procrastinator. I always have good intentions, but its hard for me to follow through. It doesn't help that I am department chair, have 9 month old triplet boys, and am taking masters courses all while I am taking this course. Lately however, I am making myself take the time. Usually late nights is when I get my work completed.

As long as I make a schedule and try to stick to it, I will succeed. My wife is helping remind me to get the work completed.

I do have the finish line in view, and I will get there.

So I am learning how to integrate technology in my classroom. I think ultimately it will be nice. I am hoping that students will access this info from home, but I am in Balch Spring, and many of our students do not have internet at home.
